Deep tissue is the most misunderstood treatment on any spa menu. It is not simply "a strong massage" — it is a precise set of techniques that work the deeper layers of muscle and fascia. Here is what actually happens on the table, and why it works.
Slow stripping. Using the forearm, elbow or reinforced thumbs, the therapist glides slowly along the muscle fibres, from attachment to attachment. Slowness is the point: deep layers only release when the nervous system trusts the pressure.

Cross-fibre friction. Short, deliberate strokes across the fibres break down adhesions — the "knots" you feel as hard grains in the shoulder blades.
Trigger-point pressure. Sustained static pressure (30–90 seconds) on a hypersensitive point until it softens and the referred ache fades.
Assisted stretching. Between sequences, the therapist moves the joint through its range to re-teach the muscle its new length.

Effective deep tissue sits at "intense but breathable" — you can always exhale through it. Sharp pain, bruising force or working directly on the spine are signs of poor technique, not depth. Our therapists check pressure with you constantly; mild next-day soreness (like after training) is normal, drink water and it fades within 24 hours.
Recent injuries, fever, pregnancy (choose our prenatal treatment instead), blood-thinning medication or acute inflammation: tell your therapist beforehand — she will adapt or recommend a gentler treatment. This consultation is part of any serious service.
